Buying Sewing Machines & Fabric
Use what you have:
You can use new or old sheets or clothing and fibrefill from old stuffed animals or pillows, even zippers and buttons from old clothing. Remnants from other projects. Even ask grandma or someone who sews they will more than likely have some things you can use! Also Value Village often has some too! Old or New fleece blankets are great if you can get them discounted. ( I was in JYSK April 2023 and saw fleece throws for $4 60″ wide is normal width of fleece so this one for example was 1.3 meters making it $3 meter!)
Feel free to use any place you like but here are some suggestions!
I also try to only spend $10-15 per meter for fabric if I can, sewing can get expensive and I think that this price point you are getting a deal, if you can get it for less congratulations!!
In Saskatoon:
Walmart- fat quarters, zippers, fibrefill, elastic, thread etc.
Fabricland- Almost everything (make sure to get a membership if you think you will use it or borrow someone’s before you go!)
Online:
Amazon
Fabricvill (Fabricland online)
Etsy (be sure to look only in Canada)
The Fabric Snob– Canadian 🙂
Fat Quarters: are an already cut piece of fabric that are usually 18×21 These and nice for small projects!
Sewing Machines:
Walmart- Brother Sewing Machines
Amazon- Brother Sewing Machines
Costco- Sewing Machines
Brother Canada- Sewing Machines – We have 2 machines from here that were refurbished and they work great.
We use Brother machines with a speed control ( machine has different speeds so you don’t have to control the machine with your foot) This is not a necessity, it just makes it easier to begin but in no time they are speeding along not needing this feature. Below are photos of the machines we have with this feature. The speed control is below the word Brother 1 arrow makes the machine go slow 3 arrows makes it go the fastest. If you want this feature just look for this slide control. Also these machines are nice because your needle stays down when you end so it is easy to pivot without needing to lower your needle to turn corners as other machines that are not computerized end when you end and the needle can be at any spot.
Great prices on computerized, speed controlled machines are anything under $300 around $250 is amazing.
